I don’t think I have too many blind spots in the Mario franchise, at least the home console ones. I think it’s just this, Sunshine and Galaxy 2. I just never owned Super Mario World on the SNES as a kid, that seemingly everlasting period of time where games could be the only concern. Each game had hours poured into it, as getting a new one was a rare occurrence.

As much as I wished I had it as a kid, all I had was Donkey Kong Country, Bubsy and Mario Paint. While I’ve since bought all of the classic SNES library that interests me via Virtual Console, I just never had that youthful perception of time to sit down and play many of them. Well, time to change that! Donkey Kong Country 2 was actually a lot more manageable than I expected, and I’m hoping that momentum will continue into Super Mario World.

Monster Hunter World has been a blast, and I’m going to be publishing my thoughts on Tuesday! It’s a complicated game and experience to unpack, but I’m looking forward to you all reading it!

The next poll is up already, with Donkey Kong Country 3 having the lead at this point. Clearing the SNES backlog is honestly a huge relief, and a good chance for gathering more perspective. With Super Mario Odyssey still on the mind, it’ll be interesting to see how far the world of Mario has come.

Game A Week #8 and #9 are already spoken for, with Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 heading to Switch! So there will be a little break from the polls, but in the meantime, why not head over here and give me some suggestions for games? Retro, new, weird and anything between, if I can find a way to play it I’ll add it to my list!
