As a long-time worshipper at the Church of Pocky, I’m always on the lookout for new flavours of this addictive snack. Imagine my joy at walking into the convenience store at my university and discovering a whole shelf full of the stuff. The first one I decided to try was mango-flavoured Pocky Squeeze.
Unlike the long, slim sticks found in regular Pocky ranges, these ones are shorter and stubbier, and come in three packets of five within the box. They were also pricier than the regular Pocky at close to $5 a box, but are they worth the extra money?
This depends on if you like mango, but if you do, the answer is a resounding yes. It doesn’t have the tangy flavour real mangoes have, but the crispy savoury biscuit sticks also prevent the sweetness of the mango coating from being sickly or overpowering. It’s a nice tropical snack for summer. Unfortunately it may be difficult to find outside of specialist Asian grocery stores, but if you do come across it in the wild, any Pocky fan owes it to themselves to try some.
